...Once, this was a playhouse.
As of today, Saturday 21st November 2015, The Little Black Box Theatre closed it’s doors for the last time, and what started as a pop-up theatre with a life expectancy of maybe a year, came to an end after five times that. It's been an amazing experience and one we'll treasure forever, but it's time to move on to bigger and brighter boxes.
We don’t know what’s in store for 2 Chandos Road, but we like to think that with enough love and dedication, that shop can and will thrive in any way it wants.
As for us, we may be gone from Chandos Road, but we’ll still be around. We will continue as The Little Black Box Theatre Co. with some exciting projects lined up for 2016 that we hope to be able to lift the lid on soon, and The Little Black Box Choir is already enjoying it’s new rehearsal space at Tyndale Baptist Church on Whiteladies Road. We’ll be reorganising the website to suit our currently itinerant ways, but will be sure to keep you all updated on our super secret plans.
But we’ll always have fond memories of The Little Black Box. From our very first show, Playhouse Creatures, where the cast rehearsed while painting the stage area black, through ambitious passion projects such as Terry Pratchett’s Johnny and the Dead and the modern classic RENT being performed on surely the smallest stage it’s been squeezed onto, up to the final performances at this years Chandos Road Festival. We’ll be sad to leave Chandos Road behind, but we’re glad to see how much the street has changed in the five years we’ve called it home, and we wish the good friends we’ve made (especially, but not limited to all those at, Opus Glass Design, Ahmed’s Curry Cafe, Wilks Restaurant, and Rubicon) and we wish them all the best of luck for the future.
We’ll be seeing you around, keep your eyes peeled.
